Bathing Your Pets

Bath time should be a fun time for everyone, your pet included. Bathing is good for pets in several ways. It cleans the coat and skin, removing things such as dead skin flakes, dirt, faeces, urine, scabs, dead hairs, excess grease and other foreign material from contact with your pet. It also reduces smells associated with toilet material and muddy paws!

What you probably didn’t know, is depending on what shampoo you use, bathing can be therapeutic. Regular shampooing can treat many skin conditions. Conditions such as persistent pyoderma (bacterial skin infections), fungal infections, dry and flaking skin or constantly red and irritated skin.

When bathing your pet it is important to use a product designed specifically for them. Human shampoos are designed for human skin – dog and cat skin is different! There are fewer glands and (usually) much more hair on your pets. Human shampoos tend to dry out dog skin.

Come in and discuss what type of shampoo best suits your pet, when and how often to use it and find out any other hints and tips about washing from our friendly staff.
